1. What are Cookies?

2.1 Technically Necessary Cookies (Essential)

These cookies are strictly necessary for the operation of the website and the app. Without these cookies, certain services (such as login or the cart for the Founder Deal) cannot be provided.

• Purpose: Authentication, security (DDoS protection), storing the session status.
• Retention Period: Mostly so-called "session cookies" that are deleted when the browser/app is closed. Security cookies are stored for a maximum of 12 months.
• Legal Basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (Performance of a contract) as well as § 165 (3) TKG 2021 (Austrian Telecommunications Act).

2.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies allow us to remember your preferences to make your use of the site more comfortable.

• Purpose: Language selection, saving progress in a learning unit, Dark Mode settings.
• Retention Period: Between 6 and 12 months, so you do not have to re-enter your settings every time you visit.
• Legal Basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (User consent via app settings or cookie banner).

2.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

We want to understand how HistoryBytes is used to optimize our educational content.

• Plausible Analytics: We use Plausible by default, which does not use cookies and does not store personal data.
• Google Analytics (Optional): If used, this only happens with your explicit consent (Opt-in). We use IP anonymization.
• Retention Period: Maximum 14 months (if consented).
• Legal Basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (Consent).

2.4 Marketing Cookies

These cookies are set by advertising partners to make ads more relevant and to measure their effectiveness.

• Meta Pixel (Optional): Used exclusively on our marketing pages and only with your explicit consent via the cookie banner, to deliver ads and measure their conversion. Provider: Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. / Meta Platforms Inc.
• Retention Period: Maximum 90 days (if consented).
• Legal Basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (Consent).

3. Specific Third-Party Technologies & Third-Country Transfers

Some features of our app rely on the integration of specialized partners, some of whose servers are located in the USA:

• Meta Platforms: When consent is given, sets cookies to measure ad performance (see 2.4).
• Safeguards: Data transfers to the USA are safeguarded by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). Further details regarding protective measures for third-country data transfers can be found in our Privacy Policy.

4. Special Notice for Users in the USA (CCPA / CPRA)

If you reside in California, Virginia, or other US states with specific privacy laws, you have special rights regarding your data.

• "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information": We state unequivocally: We do not sell your personal information.
• Sharing with Third Parties: We do not share data with data brokers for cross-context behavioral advertising. Technically necessary data is only passed on to our direct service providers within the framework of strict data processing agreements.
