Do I need prior knowledge to keep up?

Do I have to start at the very beginning of history or can I go straight to my favorite era?

You have total freedom. Once you have unlocked a season, you can start its storyline whenever you want. You don't have to fight your way through the Middle Ages to end up with the Samurai. Free users can also play the entire Rome season for free forever and get started at any time.

Is this just an app for in-between or is there more to it?

Both. You can use HistoryBytes for a 3-minute kick during a coffee break or lose yourself for hours in the campaign and endless game. With over 1,200 episodes and new seasons added monthly, it's a growing universe that can accompany you for years.

Is HistoryBytes pay-to-win?

Accepted Answer

A clear no. Everything you can unlock in the in-game store can also be earned through skill and endurance. But the most important thing is: In HistoryBytes, we all win as soon as we learn something new. Even if you're defeated in the arena by a player with rarer cards, you leave as a winner – because you've taken away a learning effect that no one can take from you. Your true level-up happens in your head.

How often is new content added?

Every month. We release a brand new season monthly (e.g., French Revolution, Celts, or the Wild West) with over 10 hours of gameplay, 200+ new chronicles, and fresh cards for the arena. As a Premium or VIP user, you have full access immediately on release day. We also try to announce the next 8 seasons in advance on our roadmap, so you know exactly what's coming!

What is the benefit of collecting the 3,600+ cards?

The cards go straight into your personal roster for the endless game. They are your basis to lose yourself in reinforcing quizzes you already know – it's addictive to perfect your deck. At the same time, they form your strategic foundation when challenging other players. The further you advance on the timeline, the more powerful your arsenal becomes.

Do I have to buy the collectible cards?

A clear no. You can unlock every single collectible card of the seasons you own purely by playing. You either follow the storyline or prove yourself in the hardcore Challenger Mode. There you collect fragments: If you master all three quiz cards of a lesson in Challenger mode, the card is yours. Those in a hurry or particularly passionate about an era can purchase booster packs or Season Masteries in the in-game store to unlock all content immediately. The cards then land directly in your endless game and your VS deck.

How exactly does Story Mode work?

This is your main campaign. Here you play chronologically through all lessons of a season. Your progress is rewarded: After every 5 lessons, you receive an award. If you master 40 lessons, you unlock a special award and a title that all other players can see on your profile and in the arena. Show them who rules the era!

What can I expect in a "lesson"?

We rely on Bite-Sized Learning: You get 4 short information snippets and immediately afterwards 3 quizzes testing what you've learned. Once you complete the lesson, these quizzes are instantly unlocked for your battle deck and the endless game. In addition, you can always read a deep dive on the respective chronicle afterwards if you want to dig deeper.

How does the World Map help me understand?

Our interactive world map is your global tactical display. There you'll find all the places and events of your active seasons. The special feature: You can filter by time. This allows you to see at a glance what was happening at exactly the same time in different places around the world. This gives you an intuitive understanding of how the great historical threads come together.

How does the "Endless Game" work?

This is your training center with addictive potential. You receive quiz cards from your unlocked roster. Know the answer? Boom – point! If not: No stress, you can check the corresponding act at any time, find the info, and directly apply your knowledge. The catch: Build a streak! The more correct answers you provide in a row, the more XP you rake in to climb to the top of the global leaderboard.

Will I really become an expert or is this just entertainment?

You get both. We filter out the endless walls of text that you can't remember anyway and focus on the essentials (Bite-Sized Content). In HistoryBytes, you develop a genuine understanding of complex contexts. Because you experience history chronologically, you finally grasp what happened when and where at the same time. You learn how societies functioned and how these events impact our modern world today. After a season like "Rome", you won't just have facts in your head, but understand the big picture.

In the arena, you compete with your roster against other players' decks. Here, not only knowledge counts, but also strategy. You use the cards you worked hard for in the storyline or in Challenger mode. Whoever has the rarer cards and better knowledge dominates the field.

Definitely! Whoever fights their way to the top of the global leaderboard not only shows that they are a history genius. Top rankings unlock exclusive badges, rare avatars, and sometimes even special in-game bonuses that cement your status as a champion.

Are there different Premium tiers or hidden costs?

Absolutely not. We hate complicated pricing models. With us, there is exactly one Premium: Either you are a Free user (Rome) or a Full Access user (All Seasons). There are no "Premium Lite" or "Pro Plus" traps. If you have full access (or the Founder Deal), you play the entire History universe with all features – no ifs, ands, or buts.

Can I keep my cards and awards if I cancel my monthly subscription?

Your awards will of course remain yours, but upon cancellation, you revert to Free status (Season 1). This means: Your unlimited gameplay will be reduced to the daily limits again, and you can no longer play or discover the premium cards, lessons, and premium locations on the world map. But: Everything you specifically purchased in the in-game store (e.g., cards pulled from booster packs or unlocked Season Masteries) belongs to you forever and can continue to be played indefinitely!
